President Obama made his decision yesterday to extend the Bush tax cuts temperately for another 2 years. The Republicans held hostage over 2 million Americans unemployment insurance money. So they could get this deal.

Instead of fighting for the next 3 weeks, and maybe getting nothing else on his agenda passed through the Senate. Such as the Dream Act, Budget, Don't Ask Don't Tell. and The Start Treaty.
He choose to say look, if I can get unemployment insurance extended for Americans for a year, ( it's been month to month) a big fight to get it done.
If we can continue all the tax cuts from the Recovery Act for 2 years. For businesses, child tax credit, making work pay tax credit, education, and a few more. These cuts would of expired January 1st. 2011. He choose to sign on.

President Obama choose to fight for the American people instead of playing politics with their lives and livelihood. 

Some Democrats, and professional left are saying he caved to the Republicans. No he didn't. It's called compromise. Compromise to finally get something done in the Senate. The place where bills go to die. President Obama refused to let the American poor and middle class down. And take the chance on getting nothing. President Obama Choose America.

I live in SC, a small town. Most people live paycheck to paycheck.  When all the textile companies moved their businesses to Mexico and China for the cheap labor within the last 10 years. The job market was then next to nothing. There are a few companies here. But not enough jobs for the area, unless you drive 30-50 miles away to work daily.

So if you are on unemployment, it pays your rent, food, lights, heat and water. Don't even think about buying any shoes or clothes. So you are waiting on your unemployment check to eat and pay your rent or mortgage. So you can have a place to stay.
Here there are many families living within one home, to share costs.

Here are the Democratic, and Republican Senate and House. Wanting to fight about giving normal American people their unemployment checks to live on. By the way money they have worked for, for years. They want the fight to last for the next 2-3 weeks. And with Democrats having only 58 votes, they need 60 to pass something. The Republicans could care less about the American people being homeless and no food.

While Washington is posturing for the TV cameras the American people are starving and being put out of their homes. Sure fight the fights you can win. But now is not the time. Not now, not when people could freeze to death with no heat and starve to death with no food. Because people who want a job and can't find one. Because Republicans choose to put Wall Street, Millionaires and Billionaires before Main Street.

So President Obama did the right thing. He got most of what he wanted for the American people. The Republicans got what they wanted for Wall Street and Millionaires and Billionaires.  And we all get to live another day. Because for the poor and middle class it's a daily grind. Americans can't wait 3 weeks for the fight in Washington to end. At least they will have some certainty.

Thank you President Obama for being yet again the Only Adult In The Room. 

PS: No excuses but, People are forgetting that President Obama ran on opposing the Bush tax cuts, BEFORE, the economy crashed. He still did not want to extend them.  Sometimes circumstances change so a person have to change their stance on a subject matter.
