Happy Holidays everyone. Be safe.
The media is still trying to figure out our new President. This is not a cookie cutter President. He can't be. Because he was inaugurated at a time in our history with problems not many previous Presidents had to deal with. The wars, economy, swine flu, pirates, auto industry, oil spills, banks etc, I could go on and on. This guy have not had a break. He have had to clean up after the last President and try and put the US back on a path to prosperity. As soon as he walked in the door. And so far he, his team and the Democrats in Congress are doing just that.
Not in the formal way, or the ways that the Congress and news media are used to. These are extraordinary times, so extraordinary votes and means of getting things accomplished are different.
Americans have short memories. And can be selfish. The Left want me, me, me. More, more, more. The right don't want anything done. And all the moderates from both sides are stuck in the middle. But this President is doing the best he can with what little he have to work with.
I'm proud of him. And his team. The Democrats and some moderate Republicans stepped up to the plate and did what was needed for our country.
I am not surprised that President Obama, Senator Reid and Majority Leader Pelosi. Formatted a plan and went with it.
President Obama always do his best work when his back is against the wall. Anyone that have read his books, and followed his career know he is not weak, or slow. As some in the media or Republicans try to make him out to be. He is a strong closer. He don't give up anything he have a passion for. So the Republicans may want a fight, I am sure President Obama will give them one. And they will lose. Remember the election between him and McCain, and the Healthcare and Financial Reform was dead 10 times before the Democrats saw an opening and passed both of them.
The new House Republicans can past anything they want. It will just go to the Senate to die. And if it escape the Senate to make it to the Presidents desk I'm sure the veto pen is sharpened and ready. The media hype is that the teaparty people that was elected is going to run the House of Representatives. I don't think so. Boehner know that can't happen and he will whip them in line. I'm sure of it. If not, they will have a short 2 years in power.
Those people want not to fund the Education Bill, Healthcare Bill, and the Financial Reform Bill. I can see President Obama vetoing the Bills now. So they can send anything they want up there to him. If his projects aren't funded he will veto. And that could possibly shut down the Government. Remember the last time the Government was shut down? Republicans lost. And they will lose again. If they try President Obama.
I am so proud the end of the 111th Congress was a great success. The media was taking joy in reporting just how bad President Obama's year have been. And how bad the last month in the House and Senate was.
How wrong they were.
As I am watching daily I am wondering if we are seeing the same things. I'm watching the House pass bills, and I was watching Senator Reid move expertly through the Senate, sometimes exasperated at the Republicans for holding up progress. Once I saw the Democratic Senate go into conference a few times, I knew something was up. I told a friend of mine that was so upset with President Obama's compromise, and when the Omnibus Bill was pulled off the floor, I told her. Watch Senator Reed and Speaker Pelosi work some magic. And so it was. Blam, blam, blam.
Don't Ask Don't Tell - Passed
Start Treaty - Passed
911 Health Bill - Passed
Defense Appropriations Bill - Passed
Airport And Airway Extension Act - Passed
FCC Vote on Net Neutrality - Passed
New GI Bill - Passed
FDA Food Safety Act - Passed
The Children Nutrition Bill - Passed
All in just the last month. And a few other Bills I can't think of right now. But here is a list of all the Bills passed in the 111th Congress. There are 100's of them. This was the most aggressive and productive Congress in the last decade. We are told since the 60's. Because the Democrats had to put the United States back together again after the Republicans broke it. And had the country crashing to the ground.
This is Change I Can Believe In. Oh how I love this hopey changie administration. It's working out just fine.
Not just for me, but for 69,456,897 people that voted for President Obama. Even for the 59,934,814 that voted for McCain, will benefit from these policies.
They may not care for our President, but they have to admit that his policies are working for the betterment of America. Yes we have problems. And yes we have a long way to go. But we did not get in this place overnight. And it's going to take some years to get us out of the mess.
As these policies take effect, and Americans start to act more responsible with their money. America will be back on track to be the superpower it always was.
